About Memory Match

Memory Match is the card game many of us first played on a kitchen table. Twenty-four cards lie face down: twelve pairs of pictures from a prehistoric world — dinosaurs, volcanoes, eggs, ferns, shells and stars. Turn two cards. If they match, they stay face up; if not, they turn back over, and it is up to you to remember where each one was.

Every round is shuffled fresh by our server, and a card’s picture is only revealed when you turn it, so the only way to be fast is a good memory. Your record is the time from the deal to the last pair, measured to a hundredth of a second, and the number of turns you took is shown beside it. The leaderboard is weekly: it resets every Monday at 00:00 UTC.

How to play

  1. Press Start. Twenty-four cards are dealt face down and the clock starts.
  2. Tap or click a card to turn it, then turn a second one.
  3. A matching pair stays face up. Two different pictures turn back over after a moment — or straight away when you turn the next card.
  4. Find all twelve pairs to finish. The bar at the top counts the pairs found.
  5. Your time is measured by our server. Sign in to put it on the weekly leaderboard.

Tips

  • Start by turning cards you have not seen yet: every new picture is information.
  • Say the pictures to yourself as you see them — “volcano, top left” sticks better than a glance.
  • Work the table in order, row by row, so you remember positions rather than scattered spots.
  • When the first card of a turn is one you have seen before, go straight for its partner.
  • Speed comes from not wasting turns. A careful pace beats fast guessing.

Questions players ask

When does the leaderboard reset?

Every Monday at 00:00 UTC. The final standings are kept: the top three of each week receive an honour on their profile, and your best time never resets.

Is the board the same every time?

No. Every round picks twelve pictures from a larger set and shuffles them fresh, on our server.

Do turns count for the board?

The board ranks time only. The number of turns is shown so you can see how cleanly you played.

Do I need an account to play?

No. Press Start and you play straight away under a guest name. Sign in with an account you already have to put your time on the weekly leaderboard.
